Get Your Skin Summer Ready!

Before you know it summer will be here. Your skin will be exposed to sun, wind, chlorine, salt water and more.

Now’s the time to start prepping your skin for summer sun and fun. Here’s some tips to get your skin ready for summer…

Out With The Old. Old skin cells that is. Exfoliation is key in prepping your skin for summer. It’s important for that ‘summer sun kissed glow’ to get rid of all the old, dry skin on the surface layer of your dermis. This makes room for fresh, new skin cells. This also helps promote a good complexion by removing blackheads within your skin pores. After exfoliating, close your pores with cold water or an astringent.

Adapt To The Season. During the winter months you may wear heavier makeup and foundation. You may use a skin cream that is more dense. During the hot and humid summer months when your skin’s pores are open more, such heavy foundation or creams may cause breakouts and extra oily skin. Look for light water-based daily moisturizers with at least SFP 15.

It’s All About The H2O. Since summer months are hotter than the rest of the year, your body loses more water… including your skin. Make sure to replenish yourself with at least 8 full glass of water per day.

Moisturize Your Body. Warmer weather means shaving your skin (legs, under arms, bikini area) more often than in the winter months. Shaving is exfoliation. Each time you shave you are removing dead skin cells. So it’s important to use an all-over moisturized body wash to keep your skin soft and hydrated from head to toe.

Backne Be Gone!  It’s common to get pimples on your back or neck, especially if you work out and don’t shower soon after. Make sure to take care of your back prior to summer months so when summer comes, you'll feel confident and comfortable walking around in a tank top. Shower and change shirt promptly after a workout. Use a back scrubbing brush with soft bristles. If you have back break outs, use a medicated cleanser (one with salicylic acid) to help knock out backne, fast!

Smooth Operator.  After shaving, get in the habit of using a good moisturizer on legs, underarms, and bikini area to smooth those little red bumps. These sensitive areas often get bumps after shaving due to skin irritation or dry skin and need extra attention during warmer months.

Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and let the sun’s Vitamin D help your body. If you want to have the best summer skin possible, start preparing beforehand!
